Boston U13s took to the field led by their captain Tom Andrews. Tom has worked really hard this season and should be proud of his captainship. Their opponents, Spalding, looked a well organised and big team and they set off at a great pace. An early try put Boston on the back foot but a really good forward effort led by John Peng and Michael Hobbs, supported by Liam Chambers and Jamie Ward, helped them to weather the storm; Jamie Ward in particular worked extremely hard tackling and carrying the ball forward. However, by half time Boston had conceded a further two tries, one of which was converted. Boston found it difficult to capitalise on the Spalding indiscipline which gave away too many penalties. 17 to nil at half time, Boston could easily have given up but to their great credit, they did not. The opposite was the case and the next twenty five minutes were played mainly in the Spalding half and on two occasions, Boston were literally feet away from scoring. The second half was all about a team effort, evey single player including all of the substitutes, played with passion and effort but Boston could not break through the Spalding defence, though Nathan McClure and Charlie Ward had good efforts. Boston did not concede another point and the match ended 17-0 in favour of Spalding. |
