Boston ended their league campaign with the heaviest defeat for years. The difference between the two sides was that Belgrave needed a handsome win to ensure promotion whilst the visitors could not change their mid-table finish whatever the result. Boston’s team had a real end of season look about it including a number of players given a chance to test their skills at a higher level and to their credit what they lacked in ability they made up for in effort and despite being outclassed the Blue and Whites never gave up and held their heads high. Belgrave rattled in six tries in the first half and seven in the second in a display of fast and physical rugby that the visitors could not handle. Belgrave were particularly powerful in the scrum and several of their scores came as a direct result of set plays close to the visitor’s line which ended with simple pick-ups and a dive over the line. The final whistle came as a welcome relief and left Boston to reflect on a season that had once again promised so much in the opening months and then sadly fell away. Boston: S. Bourne, M.
